Since Metal Gear Solid The Phantom Pain was released several weeks ago there have been numerous reports that the games developers (Konami) will be leaving the console world behind apart from their yearly golden goose release of Pro Evolution Soccer. Thankfully though it seems those reports may have been exaggerated and have now been rebuffed by an employee from Konami in the UK.

In an interview with Game On Daily UK community manager Graham Day says “Don’t believe everything you read in the press” good advice in general but in this particular case it seems like we may yet see Konami developing more games for consoles in the future. Day goes on to say that previous reports had been “Taken out of context” and that Konami is looking to “Embrace” the mobile gaming space but does not want to exit the AAA world just yet, here’s the full quote.

“Things have been taken out of context but that’s never changed, Just because mobile gaming has been embraced, that doesn’t mean everything else has to quit. Konami has a history of making the best games around and that is something that will continue. That won’t change anything going forward. So people should believe in Konami, and if I was to use a tagline, PES 2016’s tagline is ‘Love the past, play the future.’ And that is there for a reason. The future isn’t ending now. The future has a long, long way.”

As well talking about the companies AAA plans Day was asked about the future of the Metal Gear franchise and after saying the franchise was Kojima’s ‘baby’, that the franchise can carry on.  “Yeah, course it can. Metal Gear is about the story, it’s about the characters…”

So what do we think about this? I am very happy if I’m honest with you. There was apart of me that wants Metal Gear to be at an end after the masterpiece of The Phantom Pain, I didn’t want to risk having to play another Metal Gear Rising again but i’m not ready to say goodbye to Snake just yet.
